Presenter: Derek Rubidge

Derek sal onder meer die setlaar-geskiedenis op 'n tydlyn van die 14de tot die 19de eeu plaas. Hy sal ook faktore behandel soos: die "Bantoe"-lewenswyse, Arabiese indringing, Hollandse oorheersing, Franse-invloed, Engelse setlaarskap, sendelingwerk asook wapens en vegstrategieë tydens die 17de tot 19de eeue.

Short CV:

Derek says about himself: "I endured a classical education of the 4 "C's" variety: (cane, cold showers, cross country and church), followed by tertiary education and the mandatory square bashing."

Career: Mining industry in South Africa (gold copper, diamond) at the sharp end followed by employment at theone did not do any actual work in this establishment). On its closure and relocation I changed stream to industrial engineering and computer systems consulting.

Now Retired.

Interests: Hiking, sailing, deep sea fishing and reading historical publications.

Genealogy: "My interest in "digging up old bones" is very recent. I acquired a comprehensive "family tree" that had been compiled by a family member, which prompted my interest in further exploration".
